What is inflammation?

Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection; the aim being to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens – and begin the healing process.

When something harmful or irritating affects a part of our body, there is a biological response to try to remove it. The signs and symptoms of inflammation, specifically acute inflammation ( short term) such as a sore throat, ¬†shows that the body is trying to heal itself. Inflammation does not mean infection, even when an infection causes inflammation. Infection is caused by a bacterium, virus or fungus, while inflammation is the body’s response to it.

Chronic Inflammation ( long term) can cause an onset of health problems such as auto immune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, asthma), and cancer. This may come from working or living in a toxic environment, infrequent bowel movements that can cause toxins to build up in the body, and stress just to name a few. A great way to combat inflammation is by detoxing your body a few times a year, eating a nutritious diet, supplementation, adequate rest, and exercise.

  • 3-4 purple cabbage leaves
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 2 pears
  • 1 inch ginger root
